REVIEW

This is not really a haunted house. It has been a maze in years past and I don't think they changed it much. Some props are used, but it is a lot of black walls and curtains. There were three or four aliens, tops. We scared more of them accidentally walking into their hiding spots. When they did try and scare us they jumped out off cue and then crawled back into their hole. Ken and I were hiding out trying to scare Rob and Jason which was pretty fun.

I don't like when people open up a haunt just to get people to go spend their money. I like thought and detail put into a haunted house. I want to see realistic props and effects that truly bring horror to me as I walk through. If this is going to be a haunt and not just a fun kiddie maze, they need to do a lot more work. Even for a maze, I have seen much better. I would not return or recommend that someone spend their money here.

PROS

Cool theme and idea

CONS

Bad set, lack of actors

REVIEW

I really wouldn't call this a haunt or even a haunted maze. I tried to come up with a classification for it, and really couldn't. It felt like something one might encounter at a school fundraising event. I gave it a Scare Factor rating of 2: Poor. I was probably harsher than any of the other critics, but not only did I not find this scary, I didn't even find it amusing.

There was no atmosphere of any kind. If it's an Alien theme, why is everything made out of wood? I would have even bumped up the Sets rating if they had even so much as spray-painted the walls silver. Usually when I think of aliens, I either imagine a ship, which would be made of metal...or I think of them running around on some planet which would have interesting terrain. And the music from Psycho was really out of place. Why not use weird "spacelike" sounds - even radio signals would have added to the atmosphere.

In all fairness, I'm probably not the target market the creators had in mind when creating the sets and themes. A lot of the young kids that were running through it seemed to be having a good time. One thing I really want out of a haunt is to be transported somewhere. It doesn't have to be a creepy house or a swamp in a forest...just somewhere different and believable.

PROS

Cool alien masks

CONS

No set design, very few actors, not scary or even interesting

REVIEW

Oh, where to begin? First off, I was very generous in my ratings for this haunt, more so than my fellow critics. This is mostly because at one point I did get separated from the group (on purpose to make it interesting) and found myself wandering around a neon maze filled with hokey actors in hokey alien costumes. Nevertheless, that added a point on the scare factor scale for me.

Other than that, this haunt looked more like a neon/blacklight paintball arena than anything else. The actors were dismal - except for the little girl from Alien, I'll give her some credit. The fog room was way too overdone and made everyone in our group cough and cover their face. The body bag room made no sense. Most of the creatures were from Predator and Alien. We saw some preteens go through this one and they seemed to really enjoy it, however.

PROS

Short (this haunt being short is a pro)

CONS

Few actors, bad acting, bad costumes, low budget set design

REVIEW

This is a great haunt for kids and sci-fi fans, as it is fun and entertaining. But if you want to be scared, Alien Terror won't cut the mustard, not even accidentally.

There were some great costumes of Aliens in this haunt and all in all it would make a great intro-haunt for younger children.

In many ways this haunt is far below average in comparison to other attractions. The set was unimpressive; the cast had no real scare-ability (it was really more comical than scary - perhaps little green men would be more appropriate).

I don't think Alien Terror is a bad haunt it just isn't what I look for in a great haunt.

PROS

Alien costumes, fun maze at the end

CONS

Some fairy tales are scarier than this haunt

REVIEW

This is a maze-like haunt, and if you have read my previous reviews, I am not a big mall maze fan to begin with. As the name implies, there are some aliens loose in this haunt, but in my opinion not scary ones. The entire haunt/maze is done with black walls with fluorescent paint splattered on them throughout. Not scary. There are areas that have vents that seem to have green slime oozing out of them, and rooms with alien props, but I never got the feeling that I was going to encounter anything really scary.

There were a couple of actors, but the parts they were given, along with the lack of detail for this haunt, made it nearly impossible for them to really get us. And I have no idea what the music from Psycho and aliens have in common, but they are paired up in this one. The length of this haunt is too long simply because it lacks the punch and energy of a good haunted house.

There was one room that had been bypassed as far as black walls and day-glo paint, but it was so filled with fog that I literally had to cover my face with my shirt in order to breathe. Thinking back now, feeling like I was going to suffocate in that room was the scariest part in the whole haunt!

PROS

Good idea, decent length

CONS

Lack of detail, no authenticity

REVIEW

Alien Terror starts out with a soldier who is running around screaming with a gun and working very hard to scare people. He directs everyone into a maze and does an effective job of surprising the group by disappearing and reappearing. The scariest part was when he "shot" me in the foot.

From there, the rest of the rooms are mostly black walls with some florescent paint and blacklights. I like these effects when used either elaborately or in one room of a haunt, but it felt repetitive here.

There are a lot of curtains to walk through which kept causing confusion. I repeatedly opened curtains that Aliens were hiding behind, and rather than take advantage of that moment to use some energy and scare me, most of them seemed to just stand there. Even the injured humans crying for help seemed half-assed.

One room was particularly memorable for its overdose of fog at which point we coughed and feared for our lungs, but no other scares took place.

I think Alien Terror might be cool if there was a way to incorporate a soldier style guide and wage war against the Aliens, but as it stands now, it's very ho-hum for me.

PROS

Soldier with gun tried very hard, mazes were maze-like

CONS

Half-assed acting, uninteresting sets, not scary

REVIEW

If you're looking for the Alien Terror of years past, prepare to be disappointed. If you're looking for a genuinely good scare, this probably isn't the place. However, if you're looking for a good introduction to the general atmosphere of haunted houses without any real scare points, then Alien Terror might be a smart choice for you.

The alien theme is a great idea. Unfortunately, it's largely underutilized here with pretty standard-issue sets and unenthusiastic actors.

For the type of show that this is supposed to be, it's decent, but as a haunted house, there's still much to be desired.

PROS

Fun theme, decent length

CONS

Boring sets, unenthusiastic acting

REVIEW

Generally speaking, this haunt just didn't do it for me. The atmosphere of this haunt mainly consisted of a blacklight setting, thus having neon colored paint along the walls to create the glowing effect.

While I totally see how this kind of set fits together with the alien theme, this just straight up wasn't very scary. It actually reminded me of like a laser tag arena or paint ball gun arena. I don't know what would have made this setting more scary, maybe to mix a different kind of set in with this blacklight set, or to create a whole new atmosphere different from the alien stereotypes that already exist. This one just wasn't the kind of scary that I look for in a haunt.

Also, their acting needs a lot of work. I'm not very likely to scream when an alien pops around the corner and just makes some weird noise. I'm already expecting those kinds of things when I go to a haunted house. They need to be more involved with the visitors and be more creative in their scare tactics.

However, I must say that some of the masks that they used were really cool-looking and I think that this could be very useful.

Regarding length, this haunt was fairly short I thought, but also if it were any longer at the quality it was at, I would probably render it too long.
