Can a story book be scary? If a beautifully illustrated children’s novel suddenly became horrifically gross, in my mind, it would be the Field of Screams. Painfully realistic and acted out by only the best, most creative, most demented and dedicated actors, this haunt is my imagination come to life.
We were escorted throughout this carnival of sensory assault by Jason, our hung hillbilly of a guide. Somehow (lucky for me?) he gave me a nickname and was somehow able to relay it to each actor along the way, making the experience personal and frightening. Every room was tangible and populated. Actors burst from every crevasse of the haunt and spooked me either with surprise or intensity every time. Throughout the haunt is lit perfectly, allowing enough light to see the details of each actor and prop, but never so much as to reveal too much. As if led by a pretty girl, I felt seduced from room to room, sometimes even before I was ready. There was simply SO much to absorb in the Field of Corpses. It could have been 2 hours of corpses had they let me go at my own pace. I think what I loved most was the cohesive them and seamless transitions, covering maniacal doctors to creepy playgrounds. Field of Corpses defined its world and made it scary, even if in doing so, they made me want to stay instead of run. When I walked out, my jaw was hanging and I couldn’t be sure if it was from awe or fright.
Intense attention to detail and realism
Too much too fast
Three words: Oh My God. I absolutely loved this haunt! Just as we prepared to go in, a tree-limb snapping wind came up which just added to the already cool October-ish feeling. After seeing the skeleton on the large windmill and his tattered clothes flapping in the wind, I knew this outdoor haunt was going to be just what I was looking for.
First word of warning: If you don't like people in your personal space, don't go to FOC. I was unfortunate enough to be last in line and I was followed by a conga line of Erica-sniffing ghouls. They kept saying things like, "Mmmmm...this one smells reeeeeal goooood." And poor Jason, the guide really had it in for him! As we wandered through the different scenes, we met hillbillies, creepy little children, mad scientists, evil doctors, and deranged inmates. A couple of scenes that really stand out include the doctor taking a patient down, little (dead?) girls asking if we'd stay and play with them, and a full-on cage fight! The passion and intensity the actors in this haunt have seems to grow every year and always amazes me!
If you haven't seen Field of Corpses before, I don't know what you're waiting for. This haunt has grown in popularity in its short 5 years, so make sure you get there early and be ready to wait in line...the groups are well spaced apart. But don't worry, there is a movie screen with horror clips playing during the wait.
Awesome actors, phenomenal sets, outdoor atmosphere rocks
Long wait between groups so be prepared to wait
What can I say? This is an amazing haunt. They have the best set design out of all the haunts in the area. The outdoor theme of this haunt is especially creepy on a dark, cold windy night. We had the luck of reviewing it on such a night, with an almost full moon and clouds over head, it really adds to the ambience. Waiting in line you are comforted by horror movie trailers and disturbing images on a white screen. The front of this haunt has the best scarecrow I’ve seen in Colorado – gigantic pumpkin head with great wide branchlike arms extended greeting you with an evil grin.
The beginning leads you through an open outdoor area complete with bridge, pond, and an old forest theme. Winding through mineshafts, an old miners town front and eventually into tunnels and different scenes involving children’s playground, nursery, butcher shop, meat locker, tool sheds, and various other twisted nightmares, this layout and direction works every time. There are so many actors/actresses that it’s hard to keep count. They have really stepped up the acting as well, there are quite a few scenes that are very violent in nature as they mimic torturing and fighting each other as you walk by.
The length of this haunt gives you every penny’s worth of excitement, fear, and production value. My only complaint is that not much has changed from last year and it seems like they have plenty of land to expand upon in the future – so hopefully they will capitalize on that. Every year, I recommend a few haunts to my friends and this haunt is always in the top three. Last year I was annoyed by the fact that you have a guide, but this year our guide was well played and not too annoying – and made sure that all the actors were waiting for us and prepared as we walked through. They really interact with you as well – name calling in your face, sniffing, I even had one throw dirt in my hair and face. Be warned, this haunt is too brutal, gory, and violent for the younger children, but all teens and adults will get their money’s worth for sure.
Incredible set design
Not much has changed from last year
The temperature has dropped; the wind is rising, the giant scarecrow’s tatters dance with glee as a waning moon tries to give comfort amongst the screams, but there will be no comfort from the pale beam of light. Our guide through the macabre is a hillbilly zombie; a few corn cobs short of a bushel. He and his fellow corpse-anime bring a sick humor to the scenes of torture.
Terror and twisted nightmare visions greet us at every turn. For some that is just fine because that’s the way we like it - bloody, raw, and still twitching! What good is it being a flesh eating corpse if you can’t have a good laugh about it? And what better fun than taunting and teasing the living, right?
For myself, I found it difficult to resist the pleas to come and play. Sweet little gory girls with malice in their eyes ask you to stay for dinner. The lungs, heart and thigh look particularly tender, maybe with a little brain pudding for dessert. One must keep up their strength for any hope of enduring the adrenaline ride through this night!
Tips for the haunt hounds who have yet to visit these twisting paths: Wear good comfortable shoes, (sound advice for any haunt) you never know what you’ll be stepping in. Bring a jacket it might spare your skin from chills, but not your soul…muahahaha! And finally; don’t be afraid to talk to the performers, I found it heightened my experience.
So much to see, sets and props were really good. Some very convincing acting, great interaction with the sets/props and guests.
So little time to see it all, but then I’m sure I’ll be saying that often! Just can’t get enough!
In one word: Rockin'!
Field of Corpses has always done a great job all the way across the board, and this year is no exception to that rule. The actors are a very vital part of this haunt, and once again they have done an amazing job! They not only know what character they are playing, they know how to become that character. They give a very believable performance throughout this haunt and I have yet to see one break out of their role. Anyone considering acting at a haunt should come here to see how it’s really done. There are no growls or boos delivered here. Here it is in your face interaction.
I am not a fan of being guided through a haunt as it feels too distracting, but the guide that went with our group was incredible. He had his character mastered, and had the personality to bring it to a new level of entertainment. The interaction between actors was very good and very real. It turned up the volume on a lot of the scenes.
The set this year has been changed up in areas and every change was for the better. The addition of new scenes added length to the haunt was great! From the giant pumpkin scarecrow in the front you are on a nitrous thrill ride that never lets up. There were plenty of actors to keep the momentum going and the set design is so good you start forgetting that you’re in a haunt.
Lighting and costumes are excellent, new scenes and old favorites keep this haunt on the must see list for this year. If you’re only going to make one or two haunts, make sure this is one of them, you won’t be disappointed!!
Actors, new scenes, extended length
A couple of lag spots
This Haunt is definitely the eye candy of all haunts. If you want to be rocked with some crazy mind-blowing scares that will leave you wondering what’s going to come next then this is the haunt for you.
Field of Corpses offers a great crew of actors who leave you wondering if they really are like that in real life. They never came out of character and some of the scenes left me pondering if I really should help them. I love that this hunt steps it up every year and bring new ideas to the haunted house industry whipping and winding you around trails and into rooms. They go so far as even burying your feet deep into the ground at some points, so don’t were flip flops!
I think they did a great job and I put this haunt on my top list of haunts to see this year. I love how they just blew my mind and left me wondering” how in the heck did they pull that off?”. I wish the scare factor was a little better but after all was said and done you guys rocked my world.
Great attention to detail and the actors were phenomenal
I wish I would of had a more startling scare
You couldn't ask for a better haunt. The acting was amazing. Not only did they get
me and my group involved in some scares, they were playing off of each other.
Sometimes it was kind of like a skit they were putting on, and you just got a bad
feeling like you didn't want to be there. That's how good these actors were with
each other and the audience. Other times they were funny, but in a strange way.
The set and design of this haunt is also great. The coldness outside with the wind
blowing just added to the creepiness of the experience. They utilized smells really
well, and messed with your vision with their excellent use of strobe lights and
white sheets. I definitely screamed quite a bit in this haunt.
All of these factors made the length perfect. I would definitely recommend this haunt to those
looking for a great haunting.
