I had never made it to this haunt before this year. I have truly been really missing out. When I saw the sign for the haunt it seemed a little strange, there was a neighborhood where I expected the "Field". Then when we turned the corner, I caught a glimpse of this very cool haunt. FOC really started to impress me from the parking lot. It really looked like a strange twisted farmhouse.
The anticipation for the haunt begins even before the tickets are purchased. I really love the old scary movies being projected in the line to keep everyone entertained and in the mood.
Once the line is passed and the main portion of the haunt is entered, the real excitement ramps up. After a quick haunt rules, you are introduced to your "Guide". My group was given "Blinkin". I never truly figured out if he was on our side or if he was a villain. One thing was sure, Blinkin was sure entertaining. He was good for both scares and comedy relief.
One of the greatest things I can say about this haunt is that the actors were fantastic. I was just amazed how many live creatures monsters and ghouls were lurking in this farm. I don't believe I heard a "Boo" or a standard "Grr" at all. Everyone had something different and interesting to say. I also loved the lack of personal bubble the actors had. They would get right in your face and tell you exactly what was going to happen to you. I loved it.
The haunt really looked like an otherworldly southern farm that was just a bit twisted and insane. I almost felt like I was in the X-Files episode, "Home". It also utilized most every sense, sight, sound, touch, and even smell. Oh man that smell, you'll know what I'm talking about when you experience it. The length of this haunt is also fantastic. No one will say that it was too short. The best part is that none was boring.
The only real issue that I can think of with this haunt is really a certain point of view. The haunt was very well lit and was not overly scary. This is just fine for people that do not enjoy being overly scared. For my self, I prefer to have more startles and disorientation.
This is a fantastic haunt. It has a lot of thought put into it, especially in the acting department. If you are only able to go to one haunt this year, I would recommend putting Field of Corpses on your short list of choices.
Great acting from so many actors it would be difficult to count them all. Great creepy theme that was shown throughout the full attraction.
Not overly scary.
(Sigh)..Every year I go through this haunt, it makes me wish I could own and operate a haunt just like it. These guys live the fantasy of being Bakery chefs during the day and running one of the best haunts in Denver at night. If you have never been to Field of Corpses, stop what you're doing and make plans now. They have several new improvements this year, most notably in the beginning and the end. They have also added some really terrible smells (in a good way) around the pond area. Perhaps the best surprise I had was getting misted in the face by something I still have yet to identify. All your favorites are still intact such as the Butcher room, nursery, playground, mine shafts, and syringe room - the girl who falls out of her wheelchair and has a seizure right in front of you as you step over her body, ultra creepy. And I don't know where they found the HUGE 300 lb Texas chainsaw guy with a chainsaw length of 4 feet, but he really embodied Leatherface to the max! All the other actors/actresses were simply hands down amazing. You can tell that they put forth the effort, are creative in their scares and dialogue, and never give up. Not to mention that opening night there were approximately 95 of them working (confirmed). On an average night, there are anywhere between 60-80, the most of any haunt in town. This is probably b/c it takes half an hour to complete the walk through of the haunt. Field of Corpses raises the bar in Denver as one of the best haunts in town.
Set design is simply AMAZING, actors/actresses very engaging, length is worth every penny of admission
I still do not like the fact that this is a guided haunt. Sometimes the sheer volume of monsters detracts from the scares.
The Field of Corpses is like stepping into the backwoods of the hillbillies from hell! From the moment I stepped in, until the time I got out, I was wearing a smile. It took 31 minutes to get through from start to finish. Every step of the way there was something going on. This was probably my all time favorite so far! I have nothing bad to say and almost don't want to say too much in fear I may spoil any of it for you.
The students from the local high schools are the performers from the theater departments but just because they are students, don't think you are in for amateur performances! I work in the feature film industry, and I kid you not, some of these actors are every bit as good, if not better, then the Hollywood haunts I've been too. Our guide in particular was flipping awesome! He was funny, witty and in hunchback hillbilly character the whole time.
The backwoods set is authentic. You just can't beat having a haunt in a real location. All the sights, sounds and smells are all really there. In some cases they brought in additional stench as you walk through a swamp area and catch a whiff of dead fish momentarily.
For me, what makes this haunt so special is that very real flavor. This was brightly lit for a haunt, but I didn't care because you wouldn't be able to see all the elaborate sets and detailed props otherwise. At one point, I had to take a real serious look at a fully intact human spinal column. This did not look like it was from a model skeleton or from a chiropractor's office. This looked absolutely like real bones with no pins, a little yellowish in color and little grunge in the cracks of the bones. I am going to have to ask about it when I go back again because I am not so sure this wasn't for real!
There is way too much to see in just one pass. I remember one of our critics say out loud, "This is like really being in a horror movie." And, this was the first haunt all of our critics jumped at one point. But I can't tell you what gag that was because then I would have to kill you and donate your remains to The Field of Corpses so you wouldn't ruin it for everyone else!
Fantastic acting, props, sets, effects and even stunts.
Exposed to weather
How do I sum it all up?? Astonishing! Just when I think there is not a possibility for this haunt to improve, it does. From the very beginning when you are forced to faces your fears, there is nonstop scares and sights to keep you going through the entire haunt. The fact that it is outside only adds to the authenticity and realism. The materials used, the props, the smells are all authentic and help transport you to another dimension. Things have changed up quite a bit and it added to the length, which was an A+. Going into the body bag room the smell was awful and added nothing but authenticity.
The guide that our group had was amazing and added a sense of humor that made this attraction that much better. Speaking of actors, they are top notch here and never fail to deliver stellar performances every time. Makeup and costumes are so well done that they definitely set the standard that everyone should go by. There is an abundance of actors here that are very tuned into one another and work phenomenally well together. The places that they come out of are mind boggling at times and they come from every direction, so keep your wits about you! In your face scares run rampant here. The playground is one of my favorite areas and the girl on the swing is still giving me the creeps.
The new twist to the capital punishment area was great and very well executed!! It brought an incredible sense of realism to an already great scene. The ending was great and we all got a great final jolt to send us on our way! If full suspension of disbelief is what you're looking for, look no further; it is at Field of Corpses in full swing!!
Actors, costumes/makeup, new scenes
Some areas too well lit, some areas lagged a bit
What can I say? INSANE! It was very cool. One of my favorite haunts! This haunt is very creative. What sets this haunt apart is that they assign a "tour guide" to show you around, but the catch is that he is insane. My guide was very weird, and he played his role so well that he totally gave me the creeps. Once I was in, I could not believe how many actors and props they had. The place started out being fun and then shifted and became creepy. The more time I spend inside, the more insane I felt. To me, the insanity was scary—especially the way it was presented at this haunt.
The rooms were filled with great props and crazy actors that made the rooms feel even more insane. One of my favorites was a hospital scene. Crazy people interacted with each other, and there was creepy girl crawling out from under the bed. Wow! That was such a rush and creeped me out yet again. All I could think of was holding onto a friend of mine and walking backward. Another great room was filled with body parts being sold like at a regular butcher shop.
I thought the actors did a good job playing their parts, but some could use more improvement in the way they say their lines to be more believable—that way it would become even scarier. But I have to say my tour guide, Blinking, did a good job distracting us and showing us the highlights of the show, like the person being electrocuted. Blinking's best line was: "Eat some dirt, eat some dirt," as he threw dirt at my feet. I LIKED IT A LOT! A must see!
Cool having a tour guide, loved the set up, very creative
Could use more scare tactics
The highly entertaining field of corpses starts off as you are waiting in line, by watching some old scary movie scenes, a great way to pass the time in line. Once you are inside you feel as if you are walking into a scene from one of the scary movies. The tour guide was great as they explained what to look for in your journey into the unknown. They even make fun of you from time to time, which ads to the fun factor, it was hilarious; it keeps you laughing as they perform their scares. Our guide was incredible the best actor we encountered, their acting role left me craving fore more. The actors, plenty of them, filled this haunt so that you never traveled too far without seeing one. The actors helped make you believe everything was real. Although not always scary, they kept you very entertained throughout the tour. One disturbing and gross area was a dirty pond filled with the smell of rotting fish. The realistic swampy floor made you feel as though you were in thick mud. Field of corpses did an outstanding job. However I feel they could have tried to disorient you a little more, with the guide, you always knew where you were going, and sometimes what to expect. For me this detracted from the scare factor, and although Field of Corpses is a rather long haunt, I felt some areas dragged a bit, like maybe some of them would have been better if shorter. Overall a really fun experience.
Great job with the entertaining actors and a wide variety of sets
Needs higher scare factor, some parts dragged
The Field of Corpses was outstanding in their attention to detail. You start the haunt with a guide who takes you around the haunt explaining everything to you as you pass by, and setting up their scares. Tons of live actors fill the field as you work your way through the different sets. The realistic feeling you get in this haunt could have been attributed to many different factors. The quick sand floor makes you believe that you are sinking into what at first seemed to be real quick sand. The smell of rotting fish makes you wonder if it is fish or real dead bodies. There is an abundance of actors which kept you entertained, not knowing what or who you were going to encounter next on your journey. The length of the haunt is good, however, sometimes because it is long, it seemed like there were some areas lacking scares. This haunt is definitely a must see. My only complaint is that there could have been more scares along the way; anticipation was good, just sometimes nothing scary happened, due to the size of the haunt, it's probably hard to make something happen everywhere.
All in all I had a great time at Field of Corpses, it's really one of the more entertaining haunts in Denver, and a fun time.
The acting was great in their use of different characters
Needs higher scare factor from actors, more moments to make you jump
Talk about a fun haunt! You know a haunt is good when it can make you scream and laugh all in one scene. The big thing that makes this haunt stand out is how many actors there are! It's amazing! There is never a dull moment in this haunt, there is always something going on.
The actors really engage you and make you feel like you are really taking part in a freaky dream or something. I like the fact that they all don't use the same scare tactics either. Some are loud, some are quiet, some get in your face, and some crawl on the floor by your feet. I must say I do like the fact that this haunt uses guides. The guides help the flow of the haunt, plus they add a great dynamic that a lot of other haunts don't have. The guide I had was funny, but also crept me out a little, which was great. His name was Blinky, and I think he really was crazy. He would slam his head into the wall, and when I would come around a corner, he would be on the floor tossing dirt at my legs while saying, "have some dirt!" He had a little snicker that he would do a lot at random times…what a great character.
The props, set, and length of this haunt were also outstanding. This haunt is completely filled with so many props…there is just so much to look at and smell! Rotting fish, not my favorite, but great effect. It's not short either. You really get your moneys worth in this haunt.
The only reason I didn't give this haunt a 10 for the scare factor is I felt that the scares were a little predictable. What they had was excellent and still deserves plenty of recognition, but it may have been a little too light hearted for the scares to be perfect. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved what they did, but if they make the scares a little more intense and intentional, it would be perfect!
Overall, I loved it!
Very imaginative and in your face
