REVIEW

This has always been one of my favorite haunts!

For a couple years, the set did not change very much. However, this year and last year the set has changed. They keep some great parts but change others. I like to see a different haunt each year. The set here is so realistic. Each part is like being taken somewhere else. This puts me into the mood to get scared.

The actors have lines and really get into their roles. Some haunts overuse some of the old haunt tricks. The chainsaw has been so overused I dislike it more each year. This chainsaw, however, was very good. I took off running hit my head on a tree and rolled down a hill. I don't even think I saw him! He did a great job. I feel like there could have been more actors and they needed to strategize the scares. This would have made this a perfect 10 for me.

I definitely recommend this haunt. If you are going to spend your money, spend it here.

PROS

Best set design and chainsaw

CONS

Not enough actors

REVIEW

I always dread going to Frightmare because I'm afraid of being disappointed that it won't live up to my high expectations, but the folks at Frightmare never let me down. I have been going to this haunt off and on for over 13 years now and it consistently delivers a really great Halloween experience.

The scenes are changed up and re-arranged frequently, though several remained the same this year. From the hangman's lair and the haystacks to the cattle chute, crypts, and run-down old barn, Frightmare is a feast for the senses. The images, smells, and textures all mix to create a sense of realism and real fright.

We went on opening night and I noticed there weren't as many actors as usual, but assume more will be added. Those that were there were "dead" on in their roles...genuinely creepy and frightening. The hangman comes to mind: He interacted with me, but I found I couldn't really look at him!

They length is excellent, though I always wish it could be longer. They do a pretty good job of spacing groups so no one runs into another group. Overall, Frightmare is an excellent haunt that consistently ranks as one of my favorite haunts. Go see this haunt!

PROS

Awesome sets, costumes, great acting

CONS

Not open year-round!

REVIEW

This haunt delivers!

This was my first time visiting this haunt, and I was really impressed with how much effort and time went into creating this attraction. This is an outside haunt, which I love if it's cold out - adds to the tension.

The actors really put forth the effort in trying to scare us, albeit their timing was a little off. Creatures masks and costumes were very creative - gigantic, eight-foot walking grim reaper, bloody clowns, etc.

At one point we entered a barn and went upstairs - which was a nice change. The butcher room with the buzzing flies was bloody disgusting and very welcome. Some actors got us when we least expected it and came from unsuspecting corners, even low to the ground, walking all creepylike. There's also a great sandpit to add to the surprise.

PROS

F/X and set design, original scares, clowns (which I hate)

CONS

Scare timing was off, actors were energetic but not enough

REVIEW

None of the haunts were really excited to be reviewed on the opening night with the exception of Frightmare. Packed with a "bring it on" attitude, they deliver a great show with near perfect execution.

The haunt unfolds like any good story, and at one point you are lead down a path of a stockyard, like cattle awaiting the slaughter of a chainsaw-yielding maniac. Better yet, Frightmare doesn't let up. There were people falling all over the place in horror and this not even close to being the climax of the haunt.

Frightmare is a consistent haunt with good scares and an eye for detail. They have set the standard in Denver year after year of what a good haunt should look and feel like. The set and props aren't made any better, the atmosphere is textbook in execution and the path is the perfect length, though I am always sad when it's over.

PROS

The atmosphere, a fun thrill

CONS

Low enthusiasm from actors

REVIEW

Once again, Frightmare delivers! This haunt has always been in my top three, and they have done a fantastic job this year. The overall set of this outdoor haunt is so creepy and realistic it kept us guessing at every turn. The winding trails, and props along the way are done very well, and a lot of thought has gone into every aspect. Authenticity is the main element here, and they have got this down to an art! I really believed that I was wandering around an old haunted farm. The layout and actors really kept us wondering what was coming next. The sets in this haunt are great, and there is always something going on to disorient hauntgoers and keep the fear level up. There is no lag time here, the scares are constant, and well timed throughout. I loved the stacks of hay, and the monsters that lurk there - a creepy part of this haunt.

The costumes and makeup are done very well, and are believable, as is this entire haunt. I forgot I was in a haunted attraction, and believed that I really was in a nightmare. I wish it went on for hours at the pace they set.

The attention to detail is amazing, and I could see and experience just how much thought went into this haunt. If you only hit one or two haunts this year, make sure Frightmare is on your "must see" list. If you truly enjoy being scared and kept on your toes, this is definitely the haunt for you!

PROS

New layout/props, authenticity

CONS

Needed a few more actors, seems to end too abruptly

REVIEW

Of any haunt I've seen I think Frightmare has the best sets, props and effects. Everything reeks of authenticity. Seriously, even the smell is creepy.

From the elaborately built sets and cohesive theme throughout, to the great actors and costumes this is an excellent haunt. There was some totally realistic gore and minimal, but effective, use of animatronics. The length is perfect and the actors are the kind that breathe down your neck and refuse passage.

Frightmare is also one of the only places that I find a chainsaw scary.

PROS

Great set, acting, makeup, props, perfect length with good scares

CONS

On opening night there were fewer actors than preferred

REVIEW

It almost feels redundant to review Frightmare, as this haunt so obviously knows what they're doing and does a great job of it. It's impressive to me that a haunt can be around for as long as Frightmare has, and yet still manage to be innovative, relevant, and a brilliantly scary good time. The people at Frightmare are true haunt masters.

If you're wondering if Frightmare is as good this year as it's been in years past, it is, and possibly even better. It's genuinely scary, the set design is incredible, and they even managed to take some of their older props and give them a great makeover, such as moving the abominable snowman's into an ice cave, complete with bloody prisoner.

The only place I could justify taking off a point was in the acting. While most of the actors were great, some still seemed like they were trying to find their groove.

If it's possible for haunted houses to have both artistic merit and scare factor, Frightmare manages to pull it off. This is one of the best shows in Denver, and the one haunt that I personally send my friends to when they ask me where to get the very best scare in Colorado.

PROS

Excellent set design, great concepts, excellent scare factor, and great length

CONS

Some minor weaknesses in acting

REVIEW

Frightmare has my favorite set hands down. It's just so realistic - I mean, there's barns around, farm equipment, and even part where it's got the white fences like at the slaughter house. This kind of believability provides for a really intensive inclusive mood, which is quite frightening, and they did a good job with it.

One of the best scenes in this haunt is the hay stacked high. This provides like a sound barrier - and silence is sometimes more scarier than frightening music or screams. There wasn't a lot of actors, but the ones they had were great. The butcher guy was totally interactive and in your face. The guy that was holding himself up by his legs on the walls that I almost crawled under was totally freaky. When I got up to this point in the haunt, I just froze because I knew that I was going to have to crawl under him! This is some really original acting because most of the time the scares from the actors involves them getting in your territory and boundaries. This actor was going to make you cross over into his space which is a different kind of freaky I've never seen before. It turned out however that just as you were about to crawl under him, he jumped down anyway. However, with these outstanding actors, the use of a few more throughout the haunt would have made it scarier.

The length was perfect in relation to how scary and good everything else was. Overall, excellent!

PROS

Sweet set, perfect length

CONS

Not enough actors, needs more scares
