REVIEW

This is the first time I have been back to Scream Park for a couple of years. At the time it had a lot of great ideas, but it had been split into two different haunts. Though I enjoyed the haunt it was not my favorite that year. I then asked a few people who had been to the park the previous year, and they said that unfortunately it was not quite as good that year. I was anxious this time around to see how it was turning out as I had heard that it was returned to a single haunt and was granted a new view by some talented haunt designers.

When you arrive at the location, it looks like an old farm and not especially note worthy. When you pass the ticket booth and come around the building it's a different story. The queue area looks very cool with an old haunted house which used to be part of the attraction. Then the main part reminds me of old 70's like beginnings of haunts with a painted wall with the name of the haunt. This all looks fantastic.

The line may take a while as they attempt to space visitors so that you don't run into the conga lines when trying to go through the attraction. I personally like this idea as it would make the experience in the haunt a lot better. Some people however might have an issue with it.

Once the haunt begins, you get condemned for being alive and forced to go into the city of the dead. Once you get sent to the city, the door behind you is closed and you have no choice but to continue ahead. The city has a very scary and a deliberate unkempt feeling about it. It's like a post apocalyptic land overrun by monsters and strange beings. There are a lot of rooms that make you feel uncomfortable just being in it. Overall the rooms were fantastic. I do believe though that there were a couple of rooms that did not give a scare when it should have. Overall, you truly do get a grand tour of the whole place from the sewers to a bar.

The actors for the most part are really great with a few exceptions. I love the costumes that they are given. They are certainly a different style that I personally have not seen before. They are all disgusting and scary at the same time. Some notable ones are the "Donut Lady" the "melting people" and the "dentist". There are many more that gave me the creeps. One of my only gripes of the monsters was that there were a few who were too young to be truly scary in the role that they had. There was one little girl though that they did find a perfect role for her. After playing her role, she started to follow us down the tunnel to the next room. I remember finding myself walking just a bit faster than usual just to get away from her.

One note though, this is an outdoor haunt. If you go on a rainy night, be sure to wear appropriate footwear as it may get a bit muddy.

I highly recommend this haunt. As for giving me a good scare this year, Scream Park was for sure at the top of the heap. I had a lot of unfamiliar feelings of being nervous because of the imagery or from what is right around the corner.

PROS

Fantastic settings and atmosphere. Overall very scary! Good length. Pacing was great.

CONS

Wait times could be long because of the pacing. Potentially muddy. Some actors too young to be convincing.

REVIEW

You will be pleasantly surprised to hear that Scream Park has gone off the deep end this year and made a departure from their normal scare tactics and set design to bring you something completely different and engaging. Their new haunt concept, City of the Dead, is fresh and original. Many of the new concepts come from hauntedconcepts.com who are very creative in their set design. They incorporate elements of the past Sick and Twisted Zone, pump it with steroids and throw in a few voice modulation suits. Think dark, disturbing, gross, twisted, gag-reflex gory awesomeness. The theme revolves around being sentenced by The Judge (spectacular entrance!) to a walk through the city of the Dead, complete with nasty sewers, trailer park, junk yard, barber shop, bar, and various other city elements. Some rooms are so weird they defy identification except that they fall under Hellraiser or electro-shock therapy. They incorporate sights, sounds and smells, awful awful smells into your journey that really bring you into the environment. This haunt is definitely worth the money with a committed team of actors/actresses who go the extra mile to simply freak you out.

PROS

Completely different than all the other haunts in Denver - the ultra-gore factor

CONS

A couple of dead spots, could use some more fog and strobe illusion-disorienting rooms to really top off this haunt

REVIEW

Scream Park passed the bar exam. In fact, they set a new bar! You could probably go to every haunt there ever was not find one that is just like this one. Scream Park is run by new blood who is clearly inspired and letting their imagination run wild. It is hard to describe the theme. It's a little like toxic avengers meets Nightmare on Fat Albert's Street because it basically is set in a junk yard. I don't know for sure, but I think this haunt is portraying what the world might be like well into the future, after we have had some kind of nuclear fallout, or something really bad has happened that altered every species on earth. Maybe, it wasn't even supposed to be on earth. One thing is for sure. You are stepping into a world you have never seen. This has to be most creative and artistic haunt I have been to yet!

So did I like it? That would be an understatement. I fell in love with it! Once again, you just can't compete with a haunt in a real location. All the sights, sounds and especially smells are real. It is not what you expect to see on the inside when you're waiting on the outside though. There is Psycho house sitting on a hill above where you stand in line. So you expect to see something more traditional inside, but it is anything but that.

Most of the characters put on a short theatrical performance enhanced with lights, music and sound effects. You follow the path through the haunt, which has elaborate movie like sets. The sets themselves are small metal or wood shacks with different characters inside like you have never seen before. Their faces are distorted but extremely detailed. It is extremely difficult to describe them. All I can say is their costumes are a work of demented art. The acting was very good and entertaining to. Some of the best actually! I feel I am down playing this haunt so I want to be very clear. This may be the best Haunt in Denver this year, so you must go see this one!

PROS

Extremely creative, original, theatrical, great sets, great acting, great characters

CONS

Mostly outdoors. So if it rains, wear shoes you won't mind getting muddy.

REVIEW

I'm not even sure what to say or how to say it, I am utterly speechless. That is a first. I went to Scream Park with my expectations set pretty high and they were met and in some areas exceeded beyond my dreams. They have really raised the bar this year with the majority of their sets overhauled and the theme is "City of the Dead". I'm not sure I would call it that, what comes to mind for me is "City of the unbelievably deranged", but whatever you decide to call it, it works!

From the minute I entered this haunt, I knew this was not going to be the typical haunt, with typical scenes. I'm struggling to explain without giving it away, but I realize that even if I told you in great detail what waits within those walls, you would still have to see it to believe it! The overall premise is that you will be judged for having the nerve to be living, loving and caring, and then sentenced to your fate. The judgment scene is something I have never seen and the intensity of it set the tone for the entire haunt. It was in a word, amazing.

After we were judged, our group set off to meet our fate and each scene that unfolded was something from the nightmares you get from bad sushi. In this city you will explore the dark side, the sewer which was so disgusting and realistic there is no way I couldn't like it. The bait shop, the barber shop, the bakery (You are what you eat has been brought to life in here), the drive in, the morgue and the local bar are all portrayed here. Each scene was done so well that I really could have stayed in there for hours just looking at the details. They never missed a beat and I mean that literally. The music that was played in the different scenes was perfect, including an old TV sitcom theme that matched its set and added some humor to the weirdness. Costumes and makeup were strikingly original and very well done. The authenticity in them was pure genius. I had to touch one of the masks, after asking the actor of course, and was stunned to find that it was made from the real deal. Who knew donuts could be creepy?

It has been said that pure genius can cause insanity, come here and you will see proof. The ideas here were truly brilliant. The length is awesome, just when you think you are at the end, you're not. On a side note, when we finally did reach the end, it did end abruptly which was a bit of a bummer I think simply because I really wanted it to go on for as long as it could. If you like originality and want to see something that pushes the envelope in nearly every direction, and you only plan on seeing one or two haunts this year, this is a must see!

PROS

Length, costumes, set design

CONS

Ended abruptly, a couple of dead spots

REVIEW

Amazing!!!!!! I Loved it. What a rush! This is one of my ultimate favorite haunts so far. WOW! This haunt scared me. I felt like I was going crazy and I wanted to be close to people because I was so fearful. I loved the entrance. Unique! They have a judge who was scary and believable. I was found guilty for being alive—clever! As I walked deeper I saw so many tombstones that it made me feel like I might be going to my own funeral. Seeing coffins and the cemetery made me swallow hard. The props were just amazing. They had a lot of details put into it. The monsters had wild masks that I've never seen before. The atmosphere kept building and building. Excellent tension!

This haunt had something that messed with my head—little kids. These little actors were great! I was impressed. I was scared of the little girl leaning over this one corpse and doing something to it. She would talk to us as if I my group was next on her agenda. As I was leaving the room she came after us, looking creepy and making noises. Good interaction with the public. That little girl was just AWESOME! You think of children being innocent and vulnerable, but not this one. She was evil from the beginning. I loved that they mess with your head that way. Great addition to the haunt.

This haunt has so many rooms, and it's just amazing how they did it. They have one room that after seeing it and smelling it, I felt like I needed a shower; it was just too disgusting— I might have thrown up in my mouth a little. On the other hand, I could not believe how scared I got over some junk—like the drive-in theater that had cars and a movie playing, but was so isolated and creepy. I think they could have done more with this room. Maybe flicker the lights on the cars or have the cars honk at people. AMAZING…YOU MUST SEE IT. I KNOW I WILL GO BACK!

PROS

Great scares, amazing props, cool masks very unique, cool set ups

CONS

A few actors could use to be more into their character

REVIEW

Scream Park is a great haunt, filled with some interesting aspects which you won't experience in any other haunt. The beginning is very solid with the Judge who sentences you for being alive, and sends you on your journey through the city. On your travels you encounter several disturbing sets that were incorporated well into their theme.

I really enjoyed the differently textured floors, as well as the music that changed room to room; it made you feel like you were living in a movie. One of my favorite rooms was the drive in, I really felt like I was at the drive in watching the movie. The costumes that the actors wore were amazing and really the highlight of this haunt, very realistic and creepy. The actors of this haunt did their best to make you feel like the haunt was a real city and that you are living in it.

The only shortcomings were that although I felt the length was great, it dragged a bit in some areas, I didn't find it all that scary, and some of the actors weren't believable enough, lowering the scare factor.

Because of their different approach and creativity, I would definitely recommend a trip to Scream Park with your family this Halloween Season.

PROS

Length was good as well as some great props and costumes

CONS

Scare Factor was a little weak

REVIEW

Scream Park was an extraordinary experience. It takes you on a different kind of haunted journey and leaves you amazed. I really liked the textured floors making you feel like you were walking through unknown objects. They have several very creative sets like the magic theater where you just stood waiting in anticipation of what was going to happen next. The costumes were so original, from a horrifying doctor to a model giving you a great show; you really need to see them for yourself. Scream Park has a great beginning, as you walk in you are confronted by the judge who sentences you and sends you through the city of the dead. As you travel through the haunt, your senses are overwhelmed by the different types of rooms, and the disgusting smells you encounter. Let's just say I found the smell in the room with the diaper particularly gross. You meet a donut lady that goes all out to show you the ewey gooey donuts that are plastered to her face, don't eat these donuts! Make sure you go into this haunt in a small group so that you can really get into the scenes, and if you are sickened by smells, you may have to plug your nose in a few spots.

PROS

Awesome costume design

CONS

Scare factor a little low, and the horrible smells

REVIEW

The City of the Dead was very intense, with in your face scare tactics, and they did an excellent job! One of the first things I must say about this haunt is I can't believe how much stuff was packed in here! There was so much to see. A lot of the props were very intentional and served an actual role in the scaring process. However, there was a lot of random junk in this haunt, which I never though junk could be scary, but they did a great job with it all.

I don't want to give it away, but the judge at the beginning of the haunt rocked! This was one of the coolest ideas I have ever seen a haunt do. It was so intense, and that actor fit that role to the T.

I love the fact that this haunt incorporated smells. The more of the 5 senses that get used in a haunt the better. There was a part in the haunt that really grossed me out though, and the smell made me want to barf. I won't give it away, but if you go, you'll know what I'm talking about.

This haunt was a great length, and you really get your money's worth. It's fairly long, and doesn't really get old or boring. The only thing about the props/set that did get old were the hanging strips of plastic from the ceiling that you must push aside and walk through. There were too many spots in this haunt that used this, and it just felt like unnecessary filler.

The actors were great, but if they used a little more diverse scare tactics, and the actors spent more time following through with scares, it would be beneficial. Also, there was a room that we walked in, and the actors weren't ready for us. I could tell because their masks were off, and they made up some cover up line on the fly. I'm glad he at least tried to cover it up, but it still takes away from the scares. Even with this, it was still very good.

Overall, an excellent haunt that is worth the money.

PROS

Great length. Very intense.

CONS

Could use minor changes in set, acting, and scare tactics.
